Member Spotlight: Barjans. Sustainable cleaning: small changes, big impact

When we think about sustainability, energy, emissions and recycling often come to mind first. Yet everyday processes also offer considerable potential for improvement – including cleaning and hygiene. In hospitals, schools, hotels, offices and public facilities, cleaning takes place every day and often on a large scale. Small changes in the products, equipment and processes used can therefore lead to a meaningful reduction in environmental impact.

    The Green Way Project

INPACS member Barjans in Slovenia helps customers make their cleaning and hygiene operations more sustainable through its Green Way Project. Following an on-site assessment, Barjans works with each organization on three practical areas:

    1. Reduce consumption

Advanced dispensing systems, concentrated products, compact packaging and durable cleaning equipment help customers use fewer resources and generate less waste. This advisory approach also strengthens Barjans’ position as a trusted partner focused on the customer’s long-term interests. Although reducing consumption may mean using fewer products in some categories, the trust created can lead to a broader and more lasting customer relationship.

    2. Select more sustainable products

Barjans helps customers identify suitable alternatives, including products certified with the EU Ecolabel or Nordic Swan, biodegradable solutions, and products made from recycled materials or designed for recycling. Choosing the right products can reduce environmental impact and support the transition towards a more circular economy.

    3. Involve people

Training and communication help employees, visitors and users understand and apply more sustainable cleaning practices. This is essential for turning individual measures into lasting everyday habits. Issuing participation certificates helps organizations make their commitment visible to customers and other stakeholders.

The Green Way Project demonstrates that sustainable cleaning does not depend on one major change. It is the combination of practical improvements – reducing consumption, choosing better alternatives and involving people – that creates lasting impact.
